The only times that an internet phone cannot work is when there is a power failure and there is no internet connection. To reduce the chances of this happening, you will need to get an uninterruptible power supply device, generally referred to as an UPS. It will need to be the kind that lasts for some hours; not the sort that only allows you fifteen minutes or less of power so that you can finish what you were doing and shut the computer down properly.
If your internet service tends to cut out at all – even briefly – then an internet phone is not really the way you should go. Cutting out will interfere with the transfer of data and so your voice will become choppy or be lost altogether. To hook up your internet phone you need to have an telephony adaptor. You plug the standard phone jack into it and then plug it into the modem with a network cable – a standard one. There are many providers of voip these days so you can choose whom you like.
